Dedicated IP Address Hosting vs Name-Based Hosting

A dedicated IP address is an address that is unique to only your site. You are the only site on that address. Name-based hosting however places many sites on the same IP address do to the finite constraints of IPv4 standards. Both of these hosting types would have a static IP address in that it never changes, but only the dedicated IP address assures you that yours is the only site on it.

Who needs a dedicated IP address?

• Having your own Private SSL Certificate. Secure e-commerce websites need SSL certificates for accepting credit cards online.
• Anonymous FTP. It means that anyone using the FTP software can access files in a special directory of your site.
• You want to access your website by FTP or Web browser even when the domain name is inaccessible, such as domain name propagation periods.
